Before You Follow & Do Not Interact

First and foremost: What is a BYF/DNI?

A very chronically-online thing.

Real answer: It's a list of boundaries you set, warning new-comers of what you will and won't tolerate. Of course, this is not something that can be stricly enforced unless someone is directly contacting you (which then means you're able to block them).

I like keeping a DNI because it sets an expectation of what my values are and what type of person I am. It also lets others know what I am not keen on interacting with (but this is not black-and-white, and exceptions are often made for smaller things such as fandom discourse). At this point, though, I have to know and trust you.

I am a very forgiving person, but there are some philosophies I am unflinching on. In terms of what is the "basic DNI criteria" (e.g. being prejudiced/a bigot), I do not turn a blind eye as easily.

Before you follow:
  • Content on my accounts may be NSFW, minors proceed with caution (or don't at all)!
  • Tone indicators are my best friend, you'll see me using them frequently. Not as much as I used to, but I like me a /j or a /silly.
  • I am loud and enthusiastic about the things I like. I USE CAPS OFTEN in casual conversation, Erratic Capitalization, or sudden. punctuation to emphasize my tone.
  • I use slurs I can reclaim freely, mostly for myself or fictional characters. If you would not like me to use these around you, let me know!
  • I do not like nihilistic/fatalistic'KYS', 'KMS', 'die', and other death/suicide threats. humor used towards/near me.
  • As online as I may be, I apologize if I don't interact with your art/writing/etc; sometimes I forget but sometimes I just don't have the energy nor time. I try to pace myself when it comes to my social media use.
  • I block freely. Most of the time to curate my feed, or simply because I didn't like a take. This is rarely personal.
Do not interact if you are:
  • Racist, zionist, antisemitic, sexist, ableist, queerphobic, fatphobic, etc. etc. Basic DNI criteria, this is just common decency.
  • Exclusionists, Transmeds, TERFs, SWERFs.
  • Don't believe in/don't support neopronouns and xenogenders. I'm a big user of these. They hurt no one.
  • Care way too much about what other people label themselves (including being against: bi/pan/m-spec lesbians [I fall under this!], he/him + they/them + non-binary lesbians, she/her + they/them + non-binary gays, lesboys/turigirls, etc.) (Learn your queer history! Labels are arbitrary!!!)
  • Undermine trans womens' struggles in favor of 'transandrophobia'/'transmisandry'. (Good article about this.)
  • 'Proshippers'/'anti-anti'/'darkshippers' or just those who refuse to consume media criticially. If you're engaging with sensitive topics in fictionIncluding but not limited to: child abuse, sexual abuse, incest, beastiality, and many others. without acknowledging the real-world harm it causes, or condoning/encouraging it, I don't want to talk with you.
  • Boot-lickers/cop + military supporters. You can enjoy military fiction without bending over backwards to defend authoritarianism.
  • Use/endorse AI/AI-generated images and other forms of 'art'.
  • Harry Potter/JKR defenders. You can't separate art from the artist if the consumption of it contributes financially to the harm the creator perpetuates.
  • BIG Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss/Vivziepop fans. Casual enjoyment I can understand, but some of y'all need more media literacy.

Media/fandoms I avoid
  • Dream SMP/any of its (problematic) creators
  • Anything Vivziepop (Hazbin, Helluva Boss)
  • Genshin Impact/Hoyoverse
  • MarvelI like some of it (namely Spider-man and the Spiderverse) but some fans are INSUFFERABLE./MCU

  • Friday Night Funkin'
  • Harry Potter/JKR/any spinoffs
  • HetaliaComing from a former Hetalia fan who sometimes indulges in nostalgia: some fans are INCREDIBLY racist./Countryhumans/Countryballs
  • Arcane/League of Legends
  • Mouthwashing
  • Homestuck
  • Omori
  • Most things from Newgrounds
If you're into this, I don't care, but being chronically online has made me wary of some fanbases.

General icks (in art or otherwise)
  • Making fat characters skinny/slimming them down because it makes them 'prettier'. You can learn how to draw them I promise.
  • Whitewashing/lightening the skintone of POC in art. Again, you can learn how to not do this! (And, btw, 'blackwashing' is not a real thing.)
  • Purging a character of everything you don't like (including physical, emotional, or social traits) just so you can baby them.
    • The good ol' "lobotomizing your faves so you can put them in a Coffee Shop AU".
  • Making older characters look younger when depicting them as their usual age (ADD SOME WRINKLES PLEASE.)
  • Falling into racist/sexist/queerphobic tropes when depicting minorities (do your research!)
  • Erasing a character's canonical identity when said identity is already rare as it is (asexual/aromantic characters, disabled characters, etc.)
  • Depictions of transfems/transmascs that exist solely to fetishize them. For transmascs specificically: making them skinny and dainty and weak, as if they're not capable of being anything else. The inverse applies to transfems.
Fandom-specific icks
AKA, me griping about things in my fandoms that piss me off. Decently petty and opionated, and often not as serious as the other stuff in my DNI.
Metal Gear:
  • Ignoring the women in the franchise because their stories are 'underdeveloped' but then turning around and fleshing out a man who has 5 seconds screentime.
  • Automatically headcanoning the men who are skinny/conventionally attractive/androgynous as transmasc. They could be transfem too. C'mon.
  • Some Ocelot fans are fucking insane. You will live if he's bisexual I promise. Or a woman.
  • Obsessing over the absolutely deplorable war-criminal characters (LIKE VOLGIN.) and ignoring their flaws just because they're 'hot'.
  • Calling Raiden a 'femboy' (please don't use that word.), disparaging Rosemary just so you can ship him with a guy, ignoring how much of a dipshit he is just so you can pretend he's a good partner (he needs SO much therapy first).
  • Depicting pairings like Otasune or Bosselot like that sexually dimorphic yaoi meme as if they're not all men of similar statures. If I see one more dainty little Otacon next to a Buff Scary Snake istg...
  • Shipping characters that have a mentor/mentee relationship or one that can be read as familial (Solid Snake/Master Miller, Raiden/Solid Snake, Raiden/Solidus Snake [why???], The Boss/Naked Snake)
  • And also getting mad at others when people express being uncomfortable with these?
  • Ragging on Huey (which is fine, he's not the most likeable) but using it as an excuse to be violently ableist.
  • Making jokes about Hal 'cucking' his dad, when he was 16 and sexually-coerced by his step-mother. Y'all are gross.
  • Thinking Solid Snake/Meryl could've genuinely worked out/was meant to be. In MGS1, Snake (35 YEARS OLD) should've NOT been hitting on her (ONLY EIGHTEEN!!!!!!).
  • The subset of people who think Big Boss was right and totally awesome and NOT a huge loser who contributed to global devastation by completely misinterpreting/ignoring his mentor's will of 'no more wars'.
  • People who don't view the franchise as political/anti-war. Are we playing the same games???
  • The 'Invisible' memes. I'm so tired. Duran Duran is good but they have other music, and Metal Gear has other associated songs.

Disco Elysium:
  • Going "ACAB except Kim teehee!" NO. INCLUDING Kim and everyone else. They're cops!!! They work for a corrupt system regardless if you think they're good or not!!!
  • Gender-bending any of the male cast and making them skinny/unblemished/well-kept when they're mostly NOT. Especially not Harry.
  • Genuinely hating Cuno or Cunoesse. They're just traumatized kids, c'mon. Shitheads, but kids nonetheless.
  • Drawing Kim without his weak chin, large nose, or receding hairline. Just making him look younger/more 'attractive' in general. He is a 43 year-old man. He is not a supermodel. Same goes for Harry.
  • Actively supporting ZA/UM. Pirate the game!!!

Dungeon Meshi:
  • Ignoring a lesbian reading of Marcille and/or Falin.
  • Disparaging a transfem reading of ANY character (but especially Laios).
  • Being fatphobic about fat depictions of characters when it has basis in canon (you can't go into a dungeon underfed!)
  • Lightening Senshi's skintone (they do this so much in official merch it's dire.)
  • Being very vocal about your hate/disdain for Kabru/Thistle/Toshiro/other characters who are minorities (and/or also babying/woobifying them).
  • Treating Izutsumi as if she isn't a teenager (and also lewding her, she's 17.)
  • Acting as if Chilchuck is a kid when he is a grown-ass man with three kids and an (ex-)wife.
  • Acting as if any (adult) half-foot/gnome/etc. is incapable of doing Adult Things/having sexual agency (THEY'RE NOT CHILDREN. THEY LOOK LIKE THAT. IT'S NOT 'LOLI-BAIT' THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK THAT YOUNG.)

House MD:
  • Emulating House's style of humor but in horrible taste (you're just being racist at this point.)
  • Thinking that characters being ableist makes it alright for you to be ableist.
  • Ignoring that yes, even your yaois are misogynistic.
  • Supporting the actors (like Hugh Laurie) who in the present-day are explicitly zionist (you can enjoy the character, but leave it at that) (RSL and Kal Penn are pretty good though)
  • Hating Foreman for no reason (I know his writing suffers later on, but he is still SUCH a good character).
  • Hating Amber but loving House (THEY ARE THE SAME CHARACTER. BUT ONE IS A WOMAN.)
  • Woobifying Wilson (he's just as awful as House LMAO he's just less direct about it).

Star Trek:
  • Disparaging TOS because it's 'old' or unwatchable (it is, sometimes, but you'll live);
  • Treating Bones like he's never done any harm/been xenophobic (I love him too but he should NOT be talking to Spock like that.)
  • Automatically headcanoning Spock as transmasc when a transfem reading makes so much more sense. But that's just me.
  • Acting as if Kirk isn't a womanizer (he may not be a sex pest but he is an archetypal Casanova).

Other fandoms:
  • Ace Attorney: Manfred von Karma apologists; hating the women characters (Maya, Franny, etc.) because they're 'annoying'; reading Edgeworth as a one-faceted 'Daddy Dom' as if he isn't a huge flamboyant dork;
